What if the dreams or aspirations a person holds are unrealistic; does the role of life coach include readying people to accept disappointment as well as encouraging them to succeed? After all, sometimes the great american isn't written because you just don't have the novel in you, and sometimes the person you conceive to be your soulmate is married to someone else. Stumbled onto your blog and just thought I would ask.

Hi Bill,

There are MANY possibilities available...what is success in your world? What does that look like ?

Bill

We all make up all kinds of stories...what do you truly want for yourself and your life before you leave the planet ?

I mean the real deal.

I agree with you that some people surrender their dreams much too readily, but I also believe that not all dreams are attainable. Intensity of yearning is not enough to ensure success. You quoted the Buddha earlier, but doesn't the Buddha also say that desire is the source of all human suffering? I'll give some thought to what the "real deal" is for me and let you know.

Hi Bill

Great comments...let's create from the context that we all come from "Source" and we all return to "Source". Whatever, however that looks like to you...AND the DREAM of what is there...has the genesis of "Source". Consider it your life condition and purpose. How is it that in Calcutta, India the begger sits on the street grinding his daily meal...sitting crosslegged with turban and mere loin cloth...a few teeth showing through in an unmistakable "smile" of joy as a tourist passes by...he's is happy to be eating today. Is he suffering? He doesn't think so...NOT in that moment. He us overcoming his life obstacle...being hungry. What is it that you are truly hungry for in the moment ?

The only problem I see in talking about what "the Source" means to me is that if what I see as the reality of life doesn't comport with what someone else sees as reality (Someone significant to me)then I'm in an uphill struggle to establish a relationship with that person. Such a subjective view is probably O.K. if all you're talking about is getting a specific job, buying a specific house or making a certain amont of money, but if your goals revolve around another person you have to have common ground to have any chance of success. By the way, June, what are your goals?

Bill,
Got it ! Have you looked at commitment v/ attachment? It is how we are wired... to become "attached". Once "attached"...we then start resisting. What we resist...persists. When the circumstance DOESNOT look the way we think it should look...we "default" to something is wrong and/or why doesn't this look the way I WANT it to look. Not necessarily a subjective view...although it is always about SELF. Living "through" another creates a NOT being authentic SELF...AND in one being aware of inauthenticity...creates one being in the space of being authentic. Bill, my 3 goals are: financial independence, peaceful/extraordinary living space, a juicy, delicious, mentally fullfilling relationship...
